Oh, happy days! Thanks to the incredibly generous souls at Glossybox, I received a beautiful bundle of SportFX cosmetics! SportFX are a relatively new company, specialising in makeup and skin care products for the active 21st Century woman. This doesn’t mean you have to be an extreme gym bunny to enjoy their products (we’re all active in our way… shopping for ice cream is active, right? Right??), but if you are, you’ll certainly find something to suit your needs. They’re also paraben-free and cruelty-free, so that makes them all the more appealing! I used their products to give them a proper test and created this natural makeup look:
So, what was in my hamper? It was bloody bursting with goodies! I practically got their entire line, so it’s been like a mini Christmas in May for me. Here are all the juicy details on the products:Cool Down Primer + Recovery Gel, £9.99
I have mentioned before that I’m not the biggest fan of primers, but this one is actually pretty fabulous. It contains a cooling agent to soothe and target redness and genuinely works! My skin can get quite red throughout the day (it’s so glaringly obvious when I’m embarrassed, my cheeks flame, which then makes me even more embarrassed. It’s a vicious circle), so this will definitely come in handy. You just smooth it over your T-Zone (I put some on my cheeks too, to calm those bad boys down) after your moisturiser and you’re good to go.
Balance Boosting BB Cream, £12.99
This is definitely one of those products that gets better the longer it’s on your skin. Upon first application, it takes a little while to really blend properly and can sit on your skin and collect around your nostrils and under your eyes. I wasn’t impressed at first, but then after letting it soak in for about five minutes, it seemed to come alive and left a really dewy glow and made my skin look fabulous.
Core Cream Concealer, £8.99
This is a fairly lightweight formula that offers decent coverage of blemishes, but it couldn’t fully tackle my under-eye shadows. I had to use my trusty Barry M light reflecting concealer over the top to hide those pesky purple beasts. I really ought to get more sleep…
Performance Powder + Bronzer Compact Duo, £14.99
I’m a BIG fan of face powders; I genuinely prefer them to most foundations. This one did not disappoint and it’s probably my favourite product out of the entire box. It’s a gorgeous double compact of a light, velvety powder and a really brilliant bronzer! The powder glided onto my skin, evening skin tone, ensuring blemishes were fully covered without looking cakey and it didn’t settle into any fine lines (urgh, adulthood). The bronzer gives a really warm, natural-looking glow and both seemed to really match my skin tone well. A perfect pair!
Definition Duo Eyeliner Pencil, £9
This is a great pencil with a strong, intense black eyeliner on one side and a deep, warm brown on the other. I used the brown underneath my lower lashes and smudged through the crease of my lid, then the black to create a winged line above my top lashes. Really easy to use and long lasting.
Shape Up Brow Pencil, £7.99
I got one of these in my Glossybox last month and loved it, so I was happy to get another in a darker shade. This is an easy to use, water resistant formula that can make any novice look like a pro. Brows frame your entire face, so finding a brilliant product like this one is a dream.
Sport Stamina Mascara, £9
This is a waterproof mascara, which did raise alarm bells for me; I lost so many lashes the last time I removed waterproof mascara that it put me off buying one ever since. However, since the kind folks at SportFX and Glossybox were good enough to send this package my way, I thought it was worth a try. It’s been designed to be sweat-proof, without caking your lashes in a vile, crispy, spider-leg-esque mess. It does provide a pretty, curled finish but it takes quite a lot of wiggling the brush from the base to tip of your lashes to gain the desired effect. I wouldn’t use it if I were in a rush!
Raspberry Rhubarb Recovery Lip Balm, £4.99
This little ball of natural oils, shea butter and vitamins is fabulous at soothing dry and cracked lips. It leaves a little hint of colour to add a healthy sheen, whilst the scent is utterly adorable! TIP: Use this before applying a liquid lipstick to stop lips drying out and create lasting, moisturising staying power.
Time Out Face Mist/Fix, £5.99
This cooling spritz of hydration is an energy boost and a makeup fix all in one. It has a subtle minty scent, which is a little reminiscent of mouthwash, but it’s also oddly effecting. I feel like it wakes me up a bit whilst giving my makeup a little lift.
Double Time Brush Buffer + Powder Duo, £10.99
This is an antibacterial, synthetic brush duo that’s great for a work-morning rush, as you can use it to apply your BB cream or foundation with the flat buffer side and then use the fluffy end for powder and bronzer. It’s not as good as the Spectrum brushes, but it is a useful, reasonably priced handbag essential.
Face Off Duo Eye + Face Makeup Remover, £6.99
Another 2-in-1 product, these wipes contain vitamins A and E, and one of my personal favourites, coconut oil. I couldn’t smell traces of these ingredients when using the wipes, but they were effective and left my skin feeling fresh and clean. The eye makeup wipes contain olive oil, which makes them tough at breaking down waterproof mascaras (I see what you did there, SportFX) and the fact they’re wrapped in pairs means you can throw a few in your gym bag for easy cleansing. Winning!
So there you have it, a breakdown of my wonderfully kind hamper from Glossybox and SportFX. There are definitely some keepers and I’m so incredibly grateful to have received such a gorgeous and extensive gift bundle! Thank you, thank you, thank you, you beautiful creatures.
I hope you found this post insightful and that you’re inspired to give some SportFX products a try. Sorry for rambling – being succinct is not one of my strengths. I’ll also practice my selfie game for future makeup posts.
