Kat Von D Lock-it Foundation │ Review

Hellooo, everyone! I wandered into my local Debenhams the other day to peruse the extended Too Faced counter (it’s a dream), and just as I was leaving, some gothic magic caught my eye. We have a Kat Von D counter! THANK THE STARS ABOVE. It’s absolutely gorgeous, there’s the ENTIRE range, so my poor credit card will be getting more action than Colin Farrell circa 2006. I got chatting to the lovely manager and she did a foundation match for me (I’m the shade Light 44 Cool), so I thought I’d do a review of my latest purchase.

Firstly, I must admit I’m new to liquid foundation. I have used it sporadically over the years, but I’m usually a concealer and powder kind of girl. I’ve been fairly lucky with my skin; I only really suffer consistently with dark shadows under my eyes (and man alive, are they dark), blackheads on my nose (hellish) and then the odd few spots on my chin. But, as I’ve got a little older, my skin just doesn’t look as good with a dab of concealer and a swirl of powder, so I thought the time was definitely right to invest in a decent foundation. I’ve wanted to try Kat Von D’s makeup range ever since I saw it showcasing on my Instagram feed a few years ago. Her stance against animal cruelty is beyond admirable and I love knowing I can ogle her entire range of beauty products knowing no animals have suffered at any point during the process of making them.

Right, on to the foundation! When the lovely lady put it on my face, I couldn’t stop looking at myself! That sounds so ridiculous, but it honestly made my skin look FLAWLESS. It was a much heavier makeup look than I’m used to, but the payoff was so worth it. By the end of the day, my regular makeup looks patchy and any spots I may have come peeking through, but not with this foundation. I absolutely LOVED it, and the fact that it’s cruelty-free and vegan just makes me adore it even more! Naturally, I had to buy it.

When I first applied it over the weekend, I used a beauty blender. The lady in the shop told me the foundation does work best with a foundation brush, but as I’d gone back to Yorkshire to visit my parents, I didn’t have my brushes with me (what a fool), so had to resort to my trusty old beauty blending sponge which, like the vast majority of my incredible makeup brushes, is by Spectrum Collections. It didn’t look even close to as good as it had in the shop and I was a little disheartened. When I used it the next day, I still used the beauty blender, but I doubled the quantity and quickly realised my error. This is definitely a product that you shouldn’t shy away from; all my years of concealer and light powders had made me a bit stingy, but after applying a generous amount, I achieved the desired look.

This foundation is 24-hour, full coverage, transfer resistant, matte finish and it leaves my skin looking even, healthy and clear. In all honesty, I wouldn’t say the finish is fully matte on me, but most makeup does tend to end up a tad shiny on my skin towards the end of the day. Even though it’s not completely matte, I still love it because it leaves my skin looking really dewy and glowy, which is perfect for summer time, plus a little swipe of powder over my nose keeps any unwanted sheen at bay. This foundation, so far, is a brilliant purchase; it’s a creamy, velvety texture and makes your skin look airbrushed! It’s also really reasonably priced, at £27 for a 30ml bottle, which is pretty decent for a higher end product! I would definitely recommend it. Have you tried any Kat Von D beauty products? Let me know in the comments below!

Thanks for reading,

Jess XO
