The Christmas Tag

Hellooo, everyone! I hope you’re all well and getting in the mood for much festive fun, food and presents! I absolutely adore Christmas, I’m like a child every time it comes around. I love the music, the decorations, the shopping, the wrapping, the dedication to seeing your nearest and dearest and a legitimate excuse to eat your body weight in chocolate and carbs. It’s a fun, magical time of the year and I cannot believe I’ve yet to do a festive post! I’ve seen the Christmas tag floating about, so thought I’d give it a go…

1.Where do you usually spend Christmas?

Growing up, the mornings were spent at home excitedly opening presents, then in the afternoon, we’d have Christmas dinner at my grandparents’ and then head home again for food, films and chill time. Now, my boyfriend and I alternate each year spending it at his parents’ house in his hometown or at my parents’ house in my hometown. It’s my turn this year!

2. What’s your favourite Christmas film?

I have three and every year, I change my mind about which is my most favourite! The films are Love Actually, Home Alone and Die Hard. And don’t even start with the whole Die Hard debate; it’s a Christmas film and it’s bloody amazing. End of.

3. Have you ever had a White Christmas?

I have memories of playing in the snow with my cousins and building snowmen, but this may well have just been winter – I honestly can’t remember a specific White Christmas! That’s actually pretty darn sad. Having said that, last year wasn’t white, but it certainly was beautiful:

4. Can you name all of Santa’s reindeer?

Hell yes I can: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Donner, Comet, Cupid, Vixen, Blitzen and Rudolph. Christmas NERD and I’m not even slightly ashamed.

5. Do you open any presents on Christmas Eve?

Not usually, but whenever I’m not spending Christmas at my parents’ house, me and mum are particularly naughty and will open one each when I’m visiting in the build up to Christmas. We have very little self control when it comes to gifts.

6. What is your favourite Christmas song?

I’m quite the fan of most Christmas songs to be honest; they make me feel brilliantly festive, happy and all fuzzy inside and quite frankly, who doesn’t love that? But Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas just takes the top spot for me.

7. What are your favourite festive traditions?

I absolutely love a cosy Christmas Eve spent in front of the fire, in new PJs, eating calorific food and watching far more films than is absolutely necessary. Being with my nearest and dearest and having proper chill time together is another beautiful, precious part of this whole season. I also love waking up to a sack full of presents and seeing what everyone else got!

8. What would be your dream place to visit for Christmas?

It would have to be Finland, as I’d love to go to Lapland and wander around knee deep in snow, sleep in a cosy log cabin and escape the crazy busyness for a little while!

9. Be honest, do you prefer giving gifts or receiving gifts?

Well… as much as I adore shopping for presents and getting ridiculously excited watching people unwrap what I’ve got for them, I have to confess I prefer to receive presents! I’m pretty good at buying presents for people; it’s something I feel quite confident doing, but I do get insanely excited at the sight of presents all wrapped up for me!

10. When did you realise the truth about Santa?

There was a lot of talk on our primary school playground, so my mum confirmed my fears after I asked many, many questions. Upon learning the truth, (and that my dad was the one who scoffed the mince pies left out for Father Christmas) I cried!

11. Do you make New Year’s Resolutions and do you stick to them?

I make them, but I don’t often stick to them. Here’s a few I’ve failed to achieve:

Learn how to do the Rubix Cube

Finish writing my book (one day!)

Retrain my body to be able to do the splits again

Start doing a weekly exercise class

2017’s resolution was to learn how to drive – it took until late August, but I have at least started having regular lessons!

12. What makes Christmas so special for you?

It has to be getting away from the daily grind and breaking the everyday routine. I don’t live in the same county as my family, so I love being able to go back to my hometown and spend some proper time together; doing lovely things and having longer than just a weekend to enjoy one another’s company. The decorations and general mood of all those around you seems more positive and joyful, which just makes the entire period seem so magical. I also love that it’s totally acceptable to drink litres of hot chocolate.

Well, that’s it from me! Please feel free to take these questions and answer them for yourselves, I’d love to know more about all of your Christmas thoughts and feels! Thanks so much for reading, chums.

Much love and festive joy,

Jess XO
